Onneley Golf Club
About Us

Welcome To Onneley Golf Club

Welcome to one of the hidden gems of Staffordshire. Our course is not long, but it is a good test of golf. While there are a few holes where par is a welcome relief, there are more that tempt you to play a risk-or-reward shot; but be warned. Many a good golfer has walked off one of our easy-birdie holes with a bogey or worse!

We have introduced a mandatory tee reservation system to reduce the numbers waiting to tee off at busier times.

Members may book on-line.

There are two aspects of safety and enjoyment that are very important.

First, all players must give absolute priority to our greens staff. You must not assume that your best shot will miss them; the problem is that your worst one won't; and you will be liable for any personal injury claim, which could be substantial. The staff are trained to interrupt their tasks at the earliest convenient point, stand aside and call players up, so just wait till they do so. All have been instructed to report every instance of non-compliance.

Second, but equally important, the club takes its responsibilities to all members , guests and visitors very seriously and has a range of policies to ensure that. The Company Secretary, Iain Colville has special responsibility for overseeing them.
However, it is important that everybody understands that we all have a responsibility here to safeguard the rights and well-being of others, and the Board has set out what it expects of members. Please ensure you are familiar with it.

Onneley members play in competitions most weeks of the year, as follows:

  • A main club competition that runs on Sundays, open to any club member with a WHS handicap (although some have additional qualifying conditions on entry or eligibility for the trophy awarded to the winner). Although competitors may tee off at any booked time of the day, most players prefer to play in the mornings.

  • Competitions restricted to women are organised by the Ladies' Section and run on Tuesdays, when the tee is reserved for them between 09:30 and 11:00.

  • Competitions for junior golfers take place on Sunday afternoons; the Junior Academy takes place on the practice ground on Saturday afternoons.

  • Competitions for men over the age of 55 may be less serious, but are no less keenly contested. The first tee is reserved for them until 09:30 but with two-tee starts and four-ball play, younger golfers might be advised to delay teeing-off till 10:00!
